All the news this morning is the Drew Brees contract negotiations, but it shouldn’t be. I’ll go out on a limb and say that I agree with Mikes Triplett and Florio, and disagree with WWL regarding the timing of a Brees signing. I hope I’m wrong. But why would Brees sign now, when there are still unresolved issues (such as his hearing before arbitrator Stephen Burbank regarding his franchise tag)? And why would Condon recommend signing now, when he has a whole month left to try to squeeze more from the team?
I think Florio is correct: it’s a sure deal, and it’s not going to happen until the last minute. So don’t freak. Banging your head against the floor results in concussions…and no, it’s not the NFL’s fault.
What should be at the top of the news this morning is an ominous sign that the player suspensions might not be over. Andrew Juge addresses that at Saintsnation. Former Saints player Ramon Humber has been suspended for the curiously arbitrary period of three games, for reasons left unexplained. If that suspension does have anything to do with his association with the Saints, expect Roman Harper to get whacked next. Or maybe Roger just got the names mixed up: Ramon Humber, Roman Harper, could happen to any commissioner.
Meanwhile, the bon temps just keep rouler-ing along in Metairie. Pat Y is impressed.
The practices really looked no different than any of the others I’ve seen since starting this job in 2008. As always, the humidity was awful, but nothing else was. This team is talented.
And that’s without Brees. It’s without Payton. It’s without a lot of noise. And it’s despite tempers flaring. The NFL is reportedly looking at practice tape to determine if Wednesday’s dustup somehow violated the CBA. (In the real world: no. In RogerWorld, get ready to hear “yes.”)
Finally, I thought this was interesting: how to beat the Cover 2 like a drum. It’s not the Saints…but it could be. And it will be. Over and over and over. Get ready to party like it’s 2012.

I beg to differ. The NFL is actively fostering an environment which encourages fans, especially Saints fans, to bang their heads on the floor. Clearly they share some responsibility.

David “Kung Fu” Carradine died a similar death. Maybe more of an accident , than Hutchence, Hutchence was super-depressed over Yates/Geldof/Tiger Lilly custody battle, plus at the time of death, I think I remember hearing he had lost his sense of taste and smell, but not 100% sure on that. Was a big fan, seen’em 2X in NOLA, still miss him.

Plus….I had to go to his house to save Kat who was tied up in the basement. AP didn’t tie her up though. She broke into his house several nights earlier and tied herself up hoping that AP would find her and have his way with her. He thought about it, but then he had visions of ending up in prison (that’s how that shit happens, you know). So, he called me to come get her. She’s been pissed ever since. She won’t even return my phone calls. Not even the ones when I disguise my voice. Except for that one time I called as a heavy breather. She called right back and said, “Hey, Breesus Christ Superstar!! I knew it was you!!”.
